Sicherheitsdienst (German: [ˈzɪçɐhaɪtsˌdiːnst], Security Service), full title Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsführers-SS (Security Service of the Reichsführer-SS), or SD, was the intelligence agency of the SS and the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany. Originating in 1931, the organization was the first Nazi intelligence organization to be established and was considered a sister organization with the Gestapo (formed in 1933) through integration of SS members and operational procedures. Between 1933 and 1939, the SD was administered as an independent SS office, after which it was transferred to the authority of the Reich Main Security Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt; RSHA), as one of its seven departments/offices.[2] Its first director, Reinhard Heydrich, intended for the SD to bring every single individual within the Third Reich's reach under "continuous supervision."[3]

Following Germany's defeat in World War II, the tribunal at the Nuremberg Trials declared the SD a criminal organisation , along with the rest of Heydrich's RSHA (including the Gestapo) both individually and as branches of the SS in the collective.[4] Heydrich's successor, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials, sentenced to death and hanged in 1946.[5]

The SD, one of the oldest security organizations of the SS, first formed in 1931 as the Ic-Dienst (Intelligence Service[a]) operating out of a single apartment and reporting directly to Heinrich Himmler. Himmler appointed a former junior naval officer, Reinhard Heydrich, to organise the small agency.[6] The office was renamed Sicherheitsdienst (SD) in the summer of 1932.[7] The SD became more powerful after the Nazi Party took control of Germany in 1933 and the SS started infiltrating all leading positions of the security apparatus of the Reich. Even before Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933, the SD was a veritable "watchdog" over the SS and over members of the Nazi Party and played a critical role in consolidating political-police powers into the hands of Himmler and Heydrich.[8]

There were 161 households of which 22.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 45.3% were non-families. 41.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.09 and the average family size was 2.83.

The median age in the city was 50.5 years. 21.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 15% were from 25 to 44; 28% were from 45 to 64; and 29.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.0% male and 53.0% female.

White River, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 581 people, 211 households, and 135 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,117.3 inhabitants per square mile (431.4/km2). There were 245 housing units at an average density of 471.2 per square mile (181.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 48.9% White, 0.3% African American, 40.6% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.9% from other races, and 9.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 211 households of which 39.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% were married couples living together, 17.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.0% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.

The median age in the city was 39.4 years. 28.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 20.3% were from 25 to 44; 24.6% were from 45 to 64; and 18.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 46.8% male and 53.2% female.

The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.05.

The median age in the city was 38.8 years. 26.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.7% were from 25 to 44; 28.8% were from 45 to 64; and 14.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.6% male and 49.4% female.

Willow Lake, South Dakota

Wilmot is a city in Roberts County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 492 at the 2010 census. Wilmot, as well as Brookings, SD, were named for Wilmot Brookings, who was provisional governor of the Dakota Territory.

Winner, South Dakota

Winner is a city in Tripp County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 2,897 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tripp County.[7] Winner also serves as the administrative center of neighboring Todd County, which does not have its own county seat.[8] The nearest airport is Winner Regional Airport.

Winner, located in the south central part of the state, features a climate type (Köppen Dfa) often described as a hot summer humid continental climate. Winters average below the −3 °C (26.6 °F) persistent snow line isotherm, and Summers average above 22 °C (72 °F) Köppen hot summer isotherm. The climate features nearly even four seasons, typical of its classification. The all-time high temperature is 112 °F (44 °C), set in 2003 and 1965, and the all-time low temperature is −29 °F (−34 °C), set in 1989.

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 2,897 people, 1,328 households, and 717 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,316.8 inhabitants per square mile (508.4/km2). There were 1,547 housing units at an average density of 703.2 per square mile (271.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 82.1% White, 0.2% African American, 14.0% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 3.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.4% of the population.

Witten, South Dakota

Wolsey, South Dakota

The first settlement at Wolsey was made in 1882.[7] A post office has been in operation in Wolsey since 1883, the same year the town was platted.[8] The township was organized the following year, in 1884. The town of Wolsey was named for Thomas Wolsey, an English cardinal.[9]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.31 square miles (5.98 km2), of which, 2.27 square miles (5.88 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) is water.[2]

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 376 people, 165 households, and 106 families residing in the town. The population density was 165.6 inhabitants per square mile (63.9/km2). There were 194 housing units at an average density of 85.5 per square mile (33.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 99.2% White, 0.3% Asian, and 0.5% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population.
